Velo Sur Mer presents: The Purbeck Pub Run (England)

At noon on June 28th, cyclists will gather for one of the most epic amateur cycling events in the South of England. Across the undulating hills of The Purbecks, riders will compete in a series of intense races between some of the many ancient pubs in the district. Winding their way along narrow lanes, pushing their bodies to the limit with some near five hundred foot climbs and reaching eye watering speeds of at least 35mph whilst bursting downhill, riders will compete for glory and greatness. 

Not only will the overall winner be crowned with the title of ‘The Purbeck Pub Run Champion’ but they shall receive the extremely sought after Chrome Coveted Jersey, provided by Chrome Industries and designed by Death Spray Custom. 

Other fantastic sponsors include Bournemouth’s own BigxTop, designers of our incredible trophy Boscombe Bike Club and Sweden’s finest in cycle accessory design Ass Savers. On top of all of this, there is further excitement to be revealed, none other than THE Jimmy from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee will be providing a mobile support team in his brand new truck, helping out with punctures, injuries and stocking riders up with iced coffee. 

There may be blood, there will be sweat, there may be tears, all over the course of the twenty mile route, competing for not only overall champion but also ‘Fastest Female Rider’ as well as ‘Fastest Fixed Rider’ who will both have their great achievements recognised. 

For those who do not wish to take part in this intense competition but wish to appreciate the beauty of The Purbeck District from the comfort of their bike and cheer their racing friends on at the finish line, there will be an shorter thirteen mile route planned.

About the StickyRims

Transform the look of your bike in less than 30 minutes with the first version of the StickyRims products.

StickyRims are made from high quality vinyl which is die cut into 4-6 strips per side of your wheel. This fits perfectly around the V section and gives your wheels a new appearance. There is a small gap in the middle where the spokes sit, but this is going to be changed in the 2.0 version (You can see it in the photos). Also please note that the product is not intended for use with brakes so cannot be held responsible for any failure of the product.

Simply choose your wheel size, colour choice and your wheels V section height then your good to go!

Our StickyRims product review

We have fitted the StickyRims in our 7 speeds bike, but we remember you that this product is designed for fixed gear bikes and fixies, without brakes.

Our StickyRims are in "reflective white" color, we've needed 6 strips per side (and a little part of another). Originally, the rims were chromed but we wanted to change the color, and we selected reflective white, it's better if use to ride at night, and as you can see in the photos, it's highly reflective!

To fit it in our "classic squared" rims, we have needed only:

• the StickyRims strips
• a piece of cloth, to go over vinyl
• a cutter, to leave the vinyl perfectly adjusted to the base of the spokes
• about 1 hour for two wheels
• patience (this is basic when you use vinyls...)

Conclusion

We are really happy about the product, it's a great solution when you don't have money to buy a new wheelset, and it's really "eco", recycling old wheels and giving them a new life full of new colors..it's a nice idea...

• It fits well, I wait for the StickRims 2.0 to adjust better between both sides of the wheel.

Building A Bicycle

You know how to build a bike? Quella Bicycle explain the process with a new video with Mark Langley, and here we have it.

Meet Mark Langley.
Mark spends his days and nights in an old chicken shed on the outskirts of Cambridge, England, where he meticulously constructs single speed road bikes under the name Quella Bicycle.

Quella is the product of a longing to build something, and a love of cycling. This love of building bikes has turned into a fully fledged business in the blink of an eye. Formed only a year ago, the brand are now churning out hundreds of hand-built bicycles that not only look beautiful, but function at the top end of fixed gear bikes.

We spent a day following Mark and his partner Jordan Emery, as the freshly welded frames get powder coated and coloured, then cut down to size before over 20 components are lovingly pieced together to become the Quella One.

Brooks vs Kashimax, which do you choose?

Alberto Sánchez, or @eisenstaedt in twitter, has sent us two promotional videos about bike saddles: The first reflects the Japanese tradition, the second reflects the most English tradition in the manufacture of bicycle saddles.
