RYOKOU CHAPTER 2: CONSTRUCT (Shane Perkins documentary)

CONSTRUCT. Everything you need to know about the Japanese Keirin, and the mystical Keirin School.

In Chapter 2, it's all about the Keirin. Only in Japan would a bike race be invented to reunite and rebuild a war torn country. Only in Japan would they choose the top of a mountain to locate the official national Keirin School. And only in Japan would Shane Perkins find himself the solace he needs to perfect his craft...

See how men and women from all over Japan apply to become Keirin riders and the full-on training program they are put through from sun up to sun down each and every day for an entire year. No family contact. No sex. Just you and your steel steed getting to know each other very well.

"Tough Titty Crit" by Rafael Hernandez about A Series Of Foo[L]s

Here's a video shots Friday for Seans Martins CNBC fundraiser. They explain their event as:
We here at CBNC, hosted three back to back brakeless track bike crits in LA, Pomona and then LA over the last three days. It was the start of our fundraising for our RV Trip up the Westcoast. We’ll have plenty of more events coming up, soon stay tuned to this FB event page. Now onto the races, all three races had the just about the same amount of racers, 20-30 each and the courses were a mix a short, flat and in traffic for mine, flat and quite for Alvin’s and a brutal climbing course for the ender crit hosted by Robert.

FIXED 'n' CHIPS 2012

This video uploaded to vimeo by , is descripted by the creator like this:

FIXED 'n' CHIPS was a fixed gear bike alleycat race here in Bristol, UK with each of the 5 checkpoints being a Chip Shop. The race was all based on points, so the fastest to each checkpoint would receive 10 points, the second fastest receiving 9 points and so on. However, each rider could choose to stop and order a battered sausage or pot of mushy peas and receive a special 5 points bonus points card. The risk in doing that lay in time… do you stop for a sausage or grab whatever points you can and try and get to the next checkpoint quickly for a possibly 10 points!?

The race proved really quite tactical and it turned out that the results were very surprising indeed!

The checkpoints could be visited in any order, so it was up to the racers which route they took. It turned out that it simply wasn’t enough to be super fast, because Al McCarthy, who was the fastest visiting all 5 checkpoints in just 30mins actually ended up 6th because the winner, Paul Bennellick, not only visited the checkpoints as fast as he could, he then took the time to go back to each chippy and wolf down a pot of mushy peas, therefore ensuring his place as the FIXED ‘n’ CHIPS Grand Champion! So the old adage was true… points do mean prizes!

Prizes bring us to the awesome sponsors, of which there were many and plentiful. From State Bicycle Co. giving us an entire complete bicycle for the grand prize to Whiteduck Screenprint for printing all the clothing, there were so many fantastic goodies from our sponsors for the riders, so let me say a huge thank you to them for supporting the event!

FIXED 'n' CHIPS 2012 from BÖIKZMÖIND on Vimeo.

Let me thank the 79 riders who turned up to take part in the fun, it was so overwhelming to see so many faces, new and old. I did not expect that many people so it meant an awful lot to me that they came to race!

Lastly, let me thank everyone who helped out with the event, there’s too many to name because so many awesome people gave me their time. In particular thank you to Jason for being my right-hand man, thank you to the checkpoint chaps Jake, Julien, Liam, Merlin & Kieran and to Jonny and his filming crew for capturing the action on film!

World's Smallest Velodrome in Brazil - Red Bull Mini Drome

Thanks to @Santithk we have this new video from Red Bull Mini Drome in Brazil

The Red Bull Mini Drome hosted it's first Brazilian stop in Memorial da America Latina with 40 athletes of São Paulo's fixed gear biking scene in attendance. Local Suryan Cury triumphed over all others to take home the win.

The Red Bull Mini Drome is the world's smallest velodrome, and we bring it with us to different urban scenes all over the world to host open competitions. With track speeds exceeding 30 mph it takes skill, balance, and braves to conquer this shrunken down version of the traditional velodrome. A true test of one's trust and connection in themselves and their bike, the Mini Drome always hosts a fair share of falls and surprise victors as the unfamiliar course hurls riders off it's sides while allowing the committed to hug the interior red line - the key to a fast lap time.

In the initial round of competition, all riders are given 10 laps to set their fastest time. Of these riders, only the top 16 progress to the knockout rounds in which 2 riders are put on the track together in a cat-and-mouse style race, knocking out successive riders until only the winner remains.
