Fix gear bikes are not new. It's early 19th century technology and
cyclist who ride them today swear by them. It's not a new trend either,
devout fixed gear aficionados shed tears when retailers like Urban
Outfitters starting selling fix gear bikes in 2009. The new phenomenon
here is that tweens and teens of color are jumping on these bikes on
city streets.
